38 New Songs Out Today

38 New Songs Out TodayPublished: April 8, 2022Yung Lean – Stardust artwork

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we'd call "indie," and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here's a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

PRAISE – "HOTLINE TO MEMORY"

DC-area melodic hardcore band Praise (members of Turnstile, Mindset, Champion, and more) have shared the second single off their anticipated new album All In A Dream, and it's another great example of Praise's ability to bring the sounds of the Revolution Summer into the present.

YUNG LEAN – "BLISS" (ft. FKA TWIGS)

Yung Lean has just released his new mixtape Stardust, and one of its tracks is an FKA twigs collaboration, and there's a new video for that one. Pulling from rap, post-punk, art pop, and more, it's a driving, fun, impossible-to-pigeonhole song.

HEY, ILY! – "STRESS HEADACHE"

Fresh off releasing one of the best punk songs of March, genre-defying emo band Hey, ily! have shared the second single from their upcoming debut LP Psychokinetic Love Songs. It's a quirky, power-poppy emo/punk song and another great taste of this LP.

LIL BABY – "RIGHT ON" & "IN A MINUTE"

Lil Baby is back with his first two songs of 2022, "Right On" and "In A Minute," and judging by how instantly-satisfying they both are, it doesn't seem like Baby's reign is ending any time soon.

CHLÖE – "TREAT ME"

Chlöe, one half of Beyoncé protégés Chloe x Halle, has shared a new solo song. It's a rap/R&B hybrid that definitely takes some notes from Chlöe's Parkwood label boss, and that also prominently samples Bubba Sparxxx and the Ying Yang Twins' 2005 song "Ms. New Booty."

BIA – "LONDON" (ft. J. COLE)

"Whole Lotta Money" hitmaker BIA embraces drill and nabs a J. Cole verse for her new single, "LONDON."

JACK HARLOW – "FIRST CLASS"

Jack Harlow is gonna get more and more famous whether you like it or not; a snippet of "First Class" went viral on TikTok before the full song was even released. Now it's here.

CAMILA CABELLO – "PSYCHOFREAK" (ft. WILLOW)

Camila Cabello's new album FAMILIA is out now, and it's a genre-defying LP that blends pop-R&B with a variety of different styles of Latin music. One of its highlights is this collaboration with WILLOW.

NO/MÁS – "INTERROGATION"

DC grinders No Más will release their new LP Consume/Deny/Repent at the end of the month via Closed Casket Activities, and here's the totally pulverizing second single.

OLD SEA BRIGADE – "MAN MADE BY DELUSION"

Nashville singersongwriter Old Sea Brigade (aka Ben Cramer) has released his first song of 2022, "Man Made by Delusion," which was co-written with Trent Dabbs (who also co-wrote Kacey Musgraves' "High Horse"), and it's a warm, lovely dose of Americana. Ben says, "Trent and I were talking about the mental chess one plays when someone you’ve met can’t remember your name. So we decided to unpack it in a song." Old Sea Brigade also begins a tour opening for Passenger at NYC's Town Hall on April 18.

CLIFFDIVER – "IKEA STRIKES BACK"

Okalohoma pop punks Cliffdiver have shared a second song off their upcoming album Exercise Your Demons (due 5/6 via SideOneDummy), and they've also announced a tour with Carpool, including a Brooklyn show on June 5 at The Broadway with Common Sage and Palamino on the bill too.

It was produced by Jawbox's J. Robbins, and lead single "Corroded" should quickly appeal to fans of the '90s indie/emo world that Ryan hails from.

FOUSHEÉ – "DOUBLE STANDARD"

"Deep End" hitmaker Fousheé is back with a new single, "Double Standard," and it finds her modern, woozy R&B in fine form.

KEROSENE HEIGHTS – "THINGS I DO"

Texas country band Flatland Cavalry are in the midst of rolling out their Far Out West Sessions, stripped-down performances of songs from 2021's Welcome to Countryland filmed against various Texas backdrops. It's kind of a similar project to The Marfa Tapes, and if you liked that, you should check this out too.

AARON RAITIERE – "SINGLE WIDE DREAMER"

The first single is Jaz Elise's, and it's as great as anything on the rising reggae singer's recent EP.

NILS FRAHM – "HALM"

Nils Frahm has three albums worth of rare early recordings on the way. Many of these recordings have been unobtainable for years, and some them have never been released at all. None of which have ever appeared on streaming services. The first of those albums is Streichelfisch which will be out April 22. Check out the lovely "Halm" from it.

"This is probably one of my favorite songs I have ever made," she says of "Save Me." "I’ve never put live strings on a recording before, it was very emotional. There’s a sexual urgency. There’s a power play. I think it’s one of the sexiest songs I've made.:

ALEX G – "WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR" MAIN THEME

Alex G composed the score for new horror film We're All Going to the World's Fair, which will be out next Friday, and and he's just shared the main theme. “I love horror films, but it was also important to me that my film feel more than just scary," says the film's director, Jane Schoenbrun. "I wanted it to feel gentle, sad, personal, and homemade: the kind of 'horror' movie that might make you cry. When Alex's gorgeous, emotive ‘Main Theme’ enters during our opening credits (and then recurs in mutated forms throughout the movie), it's meant as a signal to the audience of exactly this ambition."

MAGGIE ROGERS – "THAT'S WHERE I AM"

Maggie Rogers announced a new album, Surrender, due out July 29 via Capitol Records, and the first single is "That's Where I Am," a vivd pop track. "'That’s Where I Am' is a story I’d been carrying around for many years, the story of a love that had been with me and unfolding for a long time," Maggie says. "A lot of the events that Surrender chronicles take place in New York City. In the stark solitude and distance of covid, it was the backdrop for all my claustrophobic fantasies. The proximity and pleasure of just staring at strangers. The way a night could unfold. Events that interrupt your day instead of having to consciously and deliberately make each decision. I longed for someone to sweat on me. Spill their beer on my shoes. Be too tall for me to see at the concert. The city’s music and attitude was a big source of inspiration for the record. For all these reasons, there was only ever one place we could shoot the video. I’ve always said that New York is the city that winks back. It’s a main character. It’s a friend, a lover, an enemy sometimes. In many ways, the music video is about that New York love story. And on those filming days, it felt like the city was on our side. We got our first taste of true New York spring. That feral downtown explosion when suddenly everyone’s smoking on the sidewalks in short sleeves and drinking gin and tonics. The appearance of a few classic New York characters – David Byrne, The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser, and photographer Quil Lemons – made the daydream feel complete.”

IN THE VALLEY BELOW – "LIE WITH ME"

In the Valley Below, who will soon be on tour with OMD, have shared this dreamy, danceable new single. “‘Lie With Me’ is one of our most personal songs,” say the band. “It’s about the night we fell head over heels for each other, even though we were both in relationships. It’s about the feelings of excitement and guilt that overwhelmed us.”

EMMA RUTH RUNDLE – "IMBOLC DAWN ATOP YNYS WYDRYN. ICE MELTS AS THE FIRST RESPLENDENT RAYS OF SPRING POUR OVER THE HORIZON"

Emma Ruth Rundle has announced new album Electric Guitar Two: Dowsing Voice, which will be released May 13 via Sargent House. It's a quasi sequel to 2011's EG1 and she says it's "album of improvised music – with an emphasis on rediscovering the vocal – by way of intuiting unseen beings and goddess forms underground, and in the water, and in the waves and the wind, and rain, and welling up from the wells… all in Wales – where I was in the winter Jan/Feb 2020."

DOECHII – "CRAZY"

Last month, rising rapper Doechii signed to TDE (after appearing on Isaiah Rashad's 2021 album and opening SZA's 2021 tour) and released the rap/R&B hybrid "Persuasive."
