36 New Songs Out Today

36 New Songs Out TodayPublished: April 15, 2022

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we'd call "indie," and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here's a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

KAY FLOCK – "SHAKE IT" (ft. CARDI B, DOUGIE B & BORY300)

Kay Flock dropped a new Bronx drill posse cut and one member of the posse is none other than Cardi B, who spits one of her hardest verses in years on this track.

26AR – "CAN'T SLIP"

More New York drill: Brooklyn's 26AR has signed to Def Jam and dropped this instantly-satisfying new anthem.

GUIDED BY VOICES – "FOCUS ON THE FLOCK"

Guided by Voices' new 7" is out in September and after sharing a-side "Alex Bell" earlier this week they've now shared the flipside. "Focus on the Flock" is yet another Robert Pollard indie rock earworm. How does he do it?

THE ALUMINUM GROUP – "THE ROCK"

he Aluminum Group's first album in 14 years reteams the band's Frank and John Navin with producer Dave Trumfio, who worked on their great 1998 album Plano. Ahead of its April 29 release, here's another elegant, witty song from it.

BE WELL – "I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THIS"

Melodic hardcore supergroup Be Well have shared the second single off their upcoming Hello Sun, and it's another ultra-catchy ripper from this consistently great band.

DAVID KNUDSON (MINUS THE BEAR, BOTCH) – "MEDALLE" (ft. BAYONNE)

Minus the Bear/Botch guitarist David Knudson has shared another song off his upcoming debut solo album, and this one's an airy dream pop song with guest vocals by Bayonne.

THEO CROKER – "JAZZ IS DEAD" (ft. GARY BARTZ & KASSA OVERALL)

Theo Croker taps saxophonist Gary Bartz and rapper Kassa Overall for a genre-blurring jazz-rap song with the message that "using ‘Jazz’ as a label continues to displace the music and unfairly categorize the contributions of our LEGENDS. I would like to join THE MASTERS, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Donald Byrd, and Gary Bartz, to name a few, and dismiss 'Jazz' as a descriptor for the genre. The music must live on unchained, no longer marginalized from the community who continues the legacy of our ancestors."

TRINA & LATTO – "CLAP"

Latto is one of of rap's brightest new stars and Trina was one of the brightest stars of 2000s rap, and they sound great together on this new track.

CAM WALLACE – "THROW'D AS IT GETS" (REMIX ft. MAXO KREAM)

Houston rapper Cam Wallace has released a new remix of "Throw'd As It Gets" from his 2021 EP These Perfect Moments, and this one's got a newly-added verse from fellow Houston rapper Maxo Kream, whose charismatic verse is a nice foil to Cam's smoother delivery.

BOYISH – "I THINK I HATE IT HERE"

Brooklyn-based duo Boyish are releasing a new EP, My Friend Mica, due out this spring, and from it they've shared the hooky, infectious "I Think I Hate It Here." "'I Think I Hate it Here' was written after a fight with an ex on a date night at the movies," guitarist Claire Altendahl says. "For a long time I had been very anxious in movie theaters, and this particular fight was about how their anxiety ruined the night. The song is about feeling like you can’t match what someone wants from you. I always have had this deep fear that the more anxious someone realizes I am, the more turned off they will be. I feel like sometimes I can’t do normal things that other people like to do on dates, so this song comes from a place of feeling undateable. It's like the build up of a lifetime of feeling like you’re missing out on the little things, into one big burst of energy, but really behind it all there’s a lot of self-doubt and insecurity."

GREY DAZE (CHESTER BENNINGTON) – "SATURATION (STRANGE LOVE)"

Grey Daze, the pre-Linkin Park band fronted by the late Chester Bennington, have announced a new album, The Phoenix, due June 17 via Loma Vista. Like their 2020 album Amends, it was made with vocals that Chester recorded in the '90s and reworked instrumentals that the surviving members recorded recently. This album also features contributions from Dave Navarro, Richard Patrick and Bennington’s daughters, Lily and Lila Bennington. The first single is "Saturation (Strange Love)," a '90s alt-metal banger that finds Chester's voice sounding as unmistakable as ever. You can get the LP on limited-to-400 blue smoke vinyl.

49 WINCHESTER – "DAMN DARLIN'"

Castlewood, VA alt-country band 49 Winchester continue to gear up for their new album Fortune Favors the Bold (due 5/13 via New West), and the latest taste is this reflective barroom ballad.

MATT KOZIOL – "LOVING YOU LOVING ME"

As mentioned, country singer Matt Koziol's debut album Wildhorse arrives in May, and he's just released new single "Loving You Loving Me," a dose of driving, anthemic country rock.

SATAN CLUB (DEATHCRASH) – "MOTH"

Satan Club is the solo guitar project of deathcrash guitarist Matthew Weinberger, and his new single "Moth" is a gorgeous instrumental featuring Matthew's gently plucked acoustic guitar accompanied by some minimal harp, piano, and violin.

DUKE DEUCE – "RUNNING OUT OF LOVE" (ft. DANTE SMITH)

Crunk revivalist Duke Deuce gets his melodic side on with new single "Running Out of Love."

JULIUS RODRIGUEZ – "ALL I DO" (STEVIE WONDER COVER)

Jazz musician Julius Rodriguez has shared a new song off his upcoming album Let Sound Tell All (due 6/10 via Verve), and it's a rework of Stevie Wonder's "All I Do" that references Tammi Terrell's 1966 version of the song.

MALIIBU MIITCH – "LETTER TO MY EX"

Bronx rapper Maliibu Miitch tones it down for a new slow jam addressed to an ex.

BRYAN FERRY – "I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF" (BURT BACHARACH COVER)

Bryan Ferry has a new EP of his renditions of classic songs, Love Letters, due out May 6 via BMG. The latest single from it is his take on Burt Bacharach's "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself." "I’d always wanted to do one of [Bacharach and David’s] well-crafted songs," Ferry says, "and this is one of their most famous."

BAS – [BUMP] PICK ME UP EP

Dreamville rapper Bas has dropped a four-song EP, with appearances by J. Cole, Gunna, Ari Lennox, Lil Tjay, and Galimatias. It finds him exploring a softer, more melodic side while we await his next album.

COLT WAVE – YOU ALREADY KNOW

Colt Wave is the project of Knapsack drummer Colby Mancasola and Ken Lovgren, who played in the pre-Knapsack band Downtime with Colby and vocalist Blair Shehan, and they've just released this new collection of jangly indie rock.

M(H)AOL – "DESPERATION"

Dublin's M(h)aol technically released this song on their Gender Studies EP last fall, but it just got a new video and if you haven't checked out this band's sneering post-punk yet, change that now.

EMPATH – "80S (SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE REMIX)

Secretly Canadian's 25th anniversary singles series continues with Spirit of the Beehive's autotune-heavy remix of Empath's "80s." "We knew we wanted Zack to remix something for us on this record," Empath's Catherine Elicson says. "He's good at making things sound insane, but in a very different way than Empath typically does. We basically gave him the song and said 'go buck' and he nailed it!"

SYLVIE – "HOLD ON MAGNOLIA" (SONGS: OHIA COVER)

Also from the singles series is Sylvie's cover of Songs: Ohia's "Hold on Magnolia. "For me personally growing up in Ohio, his raw Midwest sound struck a chord with me," Sylvie's Benjamin Schwab says. "We tried our best to give the song a Sylvie treatment, changing the arrangement and cadence of melody, while still trying to keep the magical feeling from the original. We are proud to be part of the SC25 series alongside such amazing artists and especially for such a good cause to raise money for the homeless in conjunction with New Hope For Families."

HIGH VIS – "TALK FOR HOURS"

If The Stone Roses got really into snotty hardcore, it might sound something like this.

M!R!M FEAT. NUOVO TESTAMENTO – "DESERT LOVE"

M!R!M is the solo project of London-based musician Jack Milwaukee and is gearing up to release new album Time Traitor next week. New single "Desert Love" features Italo Disco artist Nuovo Testamento and has some early '80s Madonna vibes.

BERTRAND BURGALAT – "DU HAUT DU 33E ÉTAGE (THE TOXIC AVENGER REMIX)"

French artist Bertrand Burgalat has shared this groovy new remix of "Du haut du 33e étage" from last year's Rêve capital that gives it a neon-lit, vocodered-out late night glow.

PARTY DOZEN – "FAN HATS GONE MAD"

Australian sax-and-drums duo Party Dozen, who have an album on Temporary Residence Ltd on the way, also just released this skronky stormer via the Sub Pop Singles Club. These two make quite a wonderful racket.

OTOBOKE BEAVER – "YAKITORI"

The latest single from Japanese punk Otoboke Beaver's new album Super Champon is the chaotic and very fun "YAKITORI."

MATTHEW "DOC" DUNN – "YOUR FEEL"

Multi-instrumentalist Matthew “Doc” Dunn is a Toronto underground legend who has worked with The Cosmic Range, U.S. Girls, Jennifer Castle, Kevin Morby, Sunburned Hand of the Man and more. He's got a new song out now via Sub Pop Singles Club, "Your Feel," that is anthemic in a low-fi sort of way.

KATE CLOVER – "DAISY CUTTER"

Garage rock artist Kate Clover will release her debut album, Bleed Your Heart Out, next week via SongVest Records and you can get a preview now via this punky new single."'Daisy Cutter' is the first love song I ever wrote," Kate says. "It was sonically influenced by The Buzzcocks, Ramones and Pub rock. I wrote it while falling in love and wanted it to reflect the adrenaline rush of that feeling and how your heart feels like an exploding grenade. To me, there's no greater feeling."

About damn time, indeed!
